Setting up for a very different winter...

Updated: Dec 10, 2023

So lockdown 2.0 may be drawing to close, but the situation up here in the Alps still feels a lot like lockdown knowing that we can't open until 2021! Hope everyone is holding up ok. I thought I would share a few tips that have helped me through this second lockdown, and will hopefully help you out in the coming testing months.

One of my favourite quotes is "an attitude of gratitude turns what you have into enough". I've said it before and I'll say it again, gratitude is a LIFE CHANGING practice! It's been proven that a regular gratitude practice increases happiness and overall well-being.

Your practice can be as simple as giving thanks for your body every morning when you wake up. I like to bring to mind 3 things you are grateful for each morning when you wake up, reminding you to start the day grateful for what you already have, and doing the same again before you go to sleep, taking the time to reflect on the positives of your day.

A gratitude journal is also a great place to begin a journalling practice!

Give it a try, and hopefully channel a little more happiness into these uncertain times.

Fresh air is nature's medicine. Whatever the weather, try to get outside every day. Boost your vitamin D, get fresh air into your lungs, and while you're at it, you'll lower your stress levels and boost your mood.

In any way you like. Run, walk, dance, shake it out, practice yoga... Anything that will get your blood pumping and your body moving. Have you ever felt worse after getting up off the couch and moving your body? Didn't think so!

Practice unconditional kindness, towards others - offering a smile or a hello to a stranger, helping out friends and neighbours, calling your friends and family to check in - but also towards yourself. 2020 has been one HELL of a ride, and it hasn't been easy for anyone. So go easy on yourself. Eat the ice cream, drink the wine, have a lie in when you need it. Be gentle to your body and mind and talk kindly to yourself.

"Be kinder to yourself. And then let your kindness flood the world" ~ Pema Chodron

I hope these tips help you out through these challenging times, and hopefully bring a little more happiness and contentment to every day. Keep taking each day at a time, keep looking after yourself, and I can't wait to see you all soon.
